About the Blog
Entrepreneurship is a career path; granted that it is ideally suited either to those with an intense passion to improve the world around them, or to those who are foolish enough to disregard fairly decent advice, the art of building companies is a skill that can be learned, taught, and improved.
The objective of The Lootmaar Blog is to demystify entrepreneurship and foster the entrepreneurial spirit in the younger generation. How do we intend to achieve this?
- Through Collaboration: The Lootmaar Blog is collaborative. There are 4 core contributors with diverse professional, academic and national backgrounds with one thing in common: they are all young, ambitious and entrepreneurial. The collaborative effort extends to include posts and interviews by entrepreneurs and executives on technology, entrepreneurship and management.
Our executive bloggers are Brent Ward, Jawwad Farid.
Some prominent executives featured are Gururaj Deshpande (Sycamore Networks), Yogesh Gupta (Computer Associates), Mark Rostick (Intel Capital)
- By Example: This is where Lootmaar comes in. Lootmaar is the case-study. It’s the business we’ll run together and see how it goes. So if you want to learn about startups, what better place than to see a fledgling company, have a say in its decisions and see firsthand what works, and what doesn’t. This is your chance to experience a B-school Entrepreneurship Practicum without the 55 thousand dollar price tag.
About the Contributors
Adnan Haider: I’m a not-quite-there entrepreneur, a geek, a salesman and previously worked with IBM where I specialized in enterprise storage and business continuity. I’m also a Fulbright scholar, studying Technology Management & Entrepreneurship in Duke University. And while we’re on the subject, I’m the editor of Reboot, a book on entrepreneurship and new venture failure by Jawwad Farid.
Theo Tam: Theo graduated from Stanford University where he studied Product Design and Mechanical Engineering and developed his leadership perspective, skills and tools in the Master of Engineering Management Program at Duke University. Before his work with imaGyn, Theo designed space system mechanisms as a mechanical design engineer at Lockheed Martin and helped to launch Froogle Germany at Google. In his free time, Theo’s passion and vision for the global community has led him to places like Germany, Tibet, and Haiti, where he has performed with a church band in Munich, shared a cup of yak milk tea with Tibetan farmers and scrubbed-in to a surgery for a local Haitian woman.
Wynn Xiao Wu: Wynn is fanatical about design and usability. Currently he is working, of all places, at Wynn Las Vegas trying to learn the ins and outs of the casino industry. Previously he was the lead technical designer on the imaGyn team, which won the Duke Startup Challenge in 2007. While attending Swarthmore College he co-founded a cafe, then went on to co-founded the bilingual social-network TongTong.com while in Beijing. A little less impressive than Theo’s scrubbing in with Haitian doctors, Wynn’s passion and vision for the global community has led him to visit seven different Ikea’s around the world.
